Egnater Rebel 20 20-Watt Tube Guitar Amp Head

Picked up this sweet looking unit recently. The tubes have been upgraded to a pair of vintage Tung Sol 6V6s, JJ EL84s, Chinese 12AX7s, and a Groove Tubes 12AX7. Cosmetically, it’s in stellar condition and I love the vintage modern look of the design.

In the quest for a more flexible amp, Egnater has created the Rebel-20 Mark II head. Customers love the original Rebel-20, but repeatedly requested more gain. Bruce Egnater has fulfilled their request with this redesigned and upgraded head. Among its innovative features, the Rebel-20 Mark II sports Tube Mix, which lets you blend 6V6 and EL84 power tubes for voicings and characteristics of British and American amps. This amp also features voicing switches, a 3-band EQ, an effects loop, and a classic/Mark II switch that changes the amp’s gain structure. At its price point, the Egnater Rebel-20 Mark II guitar amplifier head’s versatility puts it ahead of the pack of lunchbox amps.

The Rebel head uses Groove Tubes: three 12AX7s in the preamp, a pair of EL84s and a pair of 6V6s. It’s also got a variable Wattage control (that goes from 1 to 20 watts) right on the front panel, so it’s got the room covered, whether it’s the den or a small club. It weighs only 16 pounds and comes with a shoulder-strap carry bag, so it’s perfect as a “grab-and-go” amp, but it still packs a hell of a punch.

The design is not an extravagant departure from the traditional, but it does give the amp its own look. In addition to the Watts control, the Rebel 20 features a single input, On/Off and Standby switches, a standard 3-knob tone stack, Master Volume, Gain, Tight and Bright switches, Tube Mix control, and an effects loop that accommodated a variety of effects with no tone loss or noise. In other words, you get a lot of control over this pint-sized beast.
